ARMA — The Marmaton Valley High baseball team was met with a surging Northeast offense when they matched up on the road Monday.
Northeast broke out for 16 runs in the first four innings of a game one loss before their bats exploded again for another 16 runs in a game two loss. The Wildcats plated six runs in game two and lost by final scores of 15-0 and 16-6.
Game one
Marmaton Valley was hindered early on when Northeast scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and five more runs in the second. It put the Wildcats in a hole they would never be able to climb out of in a 16-0 loss.
Garrett Morrison started on the mound for Marmaton Valley and he was touched for seven runs across the first two innings before Kason Becker and Tyler Lord combined to pitch the third inning. The pair of Wildcats served up six runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Brayden Lawson pitched the fourth inning and closed the game on the mound, allowing two runs to score before recording the final out.
Northeast totaled 10 hits and 10 walks over four innings for their 16 total runs.
Game two
The Wildcats showed more life in game two when they plated two runs in the top of the first inning for the early 2-0 lead. Northeast tied the game up in the bottom half of the first and then plated three more runs in the second and eight more runs in the third.
Dylan Drake grounded out to drive home the first run for Marmaton Valley before Wyatt Ard singled home the second run.
Two more runs came across in the second inning for the Wildcats when Daniel Fewins and Becker each scored on an error to make it a 4-2 lead for the visitors.
Marmaton Valley scored one more run in the third inning, an Ard solo homer, and one more run in the fifth inning, also scored by Ard on an error for the 15-4 deficit. The Wildcats knocked seven hits and Ard led with three hits, including his third inning home run.
Ard also started on the mound and worked until the third inning when Dominic Smith took the ball. Lord also pitched in the third inning before Chase Smith threw the final two innings. Ard surrendered five runs on four hits through two innings.
Dominic Smith and Lord combined to serve up eight runs on three hits and five walks to Northeast’s lineup. Chase Smith allowed three runs on one hit through the final two innings.
Marmaton Valley plays at Pleasanton on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
