PLEASANTON — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s football team rolled over host Pleasanton Junior High Thursday night, 28-6.
Mike Beggs scored two touchdowns for the Wildcats. It started with a 33-yard scoring pass from Keagan Boyd in the first quarter.
Chad Starliper had a 42-yard run for a touchdown. Boyd flipped a two-point conversion pass to Dane Myers. Marmaton Valley led 14-6 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Boyd found the end zone from 20 yards out on a run. Beggs tacked on the two-point conversion. Beggs finished the scoring on a 65-yard run to paydirt.
The Wildcat defense shut out the Blu-Jays in the final three quarters of play.
Starliper led the running attack with 109 yards on 11 carries. Beggs added 89 yards on 13 carries and Boyd had 75 yards on nine carries.
Boyd was 6 of 9 passing for 96 yards. Starliper made three catches for 32 yards and Beggs had two catches for 63 yards.
Defensively, Myers, Beggs and Starliper each recovered a fumble. Starliper recorded eight tackles and Boyd had five tackles. Gate Adams and Derek Nixon had three tackles each.
Marmaton Valley’s volleyball team had success on its first outing of the season.
In A-team play, the Wildcats beat Drexel, Mo., 26-24, 25-17 and defeated host Pleasanton 17-25, 25-15, 15-8.
Ashlynn Pinkerton served for 24 points in the two matches. Ruby Mann served up 13 points and Lindsey McNeil had 12 service points. Mackenzie Tynon had six points followed by Misty Storrer with five and Kyla Drake with four.
“It was a hard fought match with Drexel. Several volleys went back and forth. When we did set up the ball, most of our hits were kills,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVJH A-team coach.
The B-team decked Pleasanton 25-9, 25-19. Trinitee Gutierrez had 20 service points. Emily Plaschka had five points. Aubrey Ard and Clara Boyd had three points each. Magie Stevenson and Nalea Alexander had one point each from the service line.
“The B-team players were excited for their first match of the season, especially the sixth graders. The key to our win was exceptional serving,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH B-team coach.
