MVJH volleyball team wins, football squad loses

MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s volleyball team won three matches at home Thursday night.
The Wildcat football team was not as fortunate against visiting Jayhawk-Linn Junior High. The Jayhawks rolled to a 62-14 win over the Wildcats.
On the volleyball court, the Wildcat girls won the A-team match 25-20, 25-18. Mackenzie Tynon served up 12 points for Marmaton Valley.
Also from the service line, Tanna Lutz had six points, Ashlynn Pinkerton had five and Kyla Drake served up four. Lindsey McNeil and Ruby Mann each had one service point.
“It took a complete team effort to get this win. Jayhawk always comes to play but our intensity allowed us to get the victory,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVJH head coach.
Marmaton Valley won the B-team match 25-17, 21-25, 15-5 led by Trinitee Gutierrez with 13 service points. Misty Storrer, Emily Plaschka and Megan Ensminger each served five points. Aubrey Arb had three points while Nalea Alexander, Magie Stevenson and Clara Boyd each had one point.
In the C-team match, Marmaton Valley won 25-19, 15-25, 15-8. Shelby Yoho served for 11 points and Alexis Smith had seven service points. Boyd had five service points followed by Stevenson and Alexander each with two service points and Emily Smart had one.
“The B and C teams both came back on their third sets to seal the win. These girls earned the victories,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH assistant coach.

Outside on the football field, Jayhawk-Linn had a 28-6 halftime lead. Marmaton Valley’s touchdown was a 20-yard run by Keagan Boyd in the second quarter.
Mike Beggs scored a touchdown on a five-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats. Jake Kale tacked on the two-point conversion.
Chad Starliper had 51 yards on eight carries and Boyd had 32 yards on 12 hauls for Marmaton Valley. Beggs gained 23 yards on five carries.
Starliper caught two passes for 23 yards. He also led the defense with six tackles. Boyd had five tackles.
Gage Adams and Derek Nixon each made four stops. Kale recovered a fumble.
