PLEASANTON — Sterling individual performances highlighted the evening for Marmaton Valley Junior High’s A teams on the basketball court. PLEASANTON’S girls outscored Marmaton Valley 14-3 in the third quarter to lead 27-20. Gutierrez led the comeback by hitting 9 of 13 free throws, but Pleasanton did just enough to hang on for the win.
Trevor Wilson poured in 18 points for the boys A team, more than enough to spur the Wildcats to a 40-32 victory over host Pleasanton.
On the girls side, Trinitee Gutierrez erupted for 25 points, including 11 of the Wildcats’ 14 fourth-quarter points. But it was not enough as Pleasanton escaped with a 36-34 victory.
Marmaton Valley plays once more before the Thanksgiving break, hosting Westphalia on Monday.
In the boys’ contest, Wilson scored 14 by half-time. He only scored four in the second half, but his teammates amped up their production as the Wildcats broke open a 22-21 lead.
Justice Pugh and Tristan Fraker added six points each, Brock Hall scored four and Caiden Elliott and Isaac Heskett had two each.
The boys’ B team rolled to a 39-6 victory. Elliott scored 15. Heskett and Gage Griffith added eight apiece, Jordan Thompson and Kiefer Endicott each scored four.
Shayla Brooks added seven points for Marmaton Valley. Isabelle Bigelow scored two.
Marmaton Valley’s B team emerged with a 6-5 victory. Scoring two each for the Wildcats were Shailee Woods, Paige Becker and Kaitlyn Knavel.
Marmaton Valley’s C team won, 9-0, in a one-quarter contest. Woods scored four, Katy Beggs three and Lana Myers two.
