MVJH squads fall in openers

Marmaton Valley Junior High's basketball season didn't open the way it would have wanted.

But there is always the next game.

UNIONTOWN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s basketball teams had a rough go of it Tuesday to open the 2021-22 season.

The Wildcats boys and girls teams both went 0-2 at Uniontown.

In the boys contests, Uniontown won 31-17 in the A game and 41-10 in the B team affair.

“We had some first game jitters against a great Uniontown team,” MV head coach Byron Marshall said. “We did some good things and learned a lot. Next game we should do better.”

Tyler Lord scored seven, while Todd Stevenson and Dagan Barney scored four each for the Wildcat A team. Ethan Lawson and Tucker Sutton each had a point.

In B team play, Marmaton Valley’s Wyatt Burnett scored four, Cooper Scharff and Kaden McVey had two and Brady Burton and Sutton both had one.

IN GIRLS play, Uniontown won the A team contest, 26-14, and the B team matchup, 24-10.

Braelynn Sutton scored six points for the Wildcats A team, followed by Jacee Mattox and Sophia Heim with four apiece. 

Addisyn Drake scored eight of the B team’s 10 points. Tierce Moore had the other two.
