MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s girls surprised visiting Jayhawk-Linn Junior High’s Jayhawks Monday night.
In their final game of the season, the Wildcat girls posted a 29-28 win over the Jayhawks. They opened the game on a 6-1 run.
Marmaton Valley led 14-11 at halftime. Jayhawk-Linn made a run at the Wildcats but they were able to stay in front in the second half.
“We had several girls in foul trouble going into the third quarter. Our bench players stepped up and gave us much needed support,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH head coach.
“We are proud of the girls this season. The A-team finished 8-8.”
Lindsey McNeil led the Wildcats eight nine points and Kyla Drake added eight. Scoring four points each were Misty Storrer, Aubrey Ard and Mackenzie Tynon.
The Wildcat girls’ B-team lost 26-21 for a 6-10 season. Drake tossed in nine points and Storrer had six.
Also scoring for MVJH were Clara Boyd and Brooklynn Newman with two points each. Ard and NaLea Alexander each had one point
In a one-quarter C-team game, Jayhawk-Linn won 6-4. Marmaton Valley got two points each from Trinitee Gutierrez and Boyd.
Marmaton Valley’s boys lost 53-24 to Jayhawk-Linn. The Jayhawks staked out a 22-4 lead in the first quarter.
Brady Newman led the Wildcat boys with 14 points. Gage Adams added four. Scoring two points apiece were Cody Wilson, Reagan Boyd and Chad Starliper.
Jayhawk-Linn won the B-team game also, 26-16.
Marmaton Valley was led by Starliper’s 10 points. Klay-Von Dowe, Wilson and Jake Wise each scored two points.
