Marmaton Valley Junior High and Crest Middle School track teams concluded their 2012 season May 1 at the Three Rivers League Junior High track meet in Mound City.
Marmaton Valley won six league event championships and Crest had two individual championships.
Marmaton Valley’s Kyla Drake is a triple individual champion and helped win a relay championship in the seventh-grade girls’ division. Drake won the 100-meter dash in 13.41 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.21 seconds. Those came after winning the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 9 inches.
Drake combined with Nalea Alexander, Magie Stevenson and Misty Storrer to take the gold medal in the medley relay in 2 minutes, 16.43 seconds. The foursome had set a MVJH seventh-grade medley relay record in 2:13.69 on April 10 at the Iola meet. The old mark was 2:15.3 set in 1999 by J. LaRue, A. Lynch, A. Norman and B. Sager.
Marmaton Valley’s Keagan Boyd won the eighth-grade boys’ 800-meter run in 2:24.23. Mackenzie Tynon claimed the eighth-grade girls’ high jump gold medal, clearing the bar at 4’4”.
Crest’s TRL championships came in the discus ring. Karlee Hammond won the seventh-grade girls’ discus and Kellen Ramsey won the eighth-grade boys’ discus. No marks or times were reported on the Crest Middle School athletes.
