PLEASANTON — An ongoing sibling rivalry is playing out on the track this spring, and it’s leaving most of the Brooks sisters’ fellow competitors in the dust.
Marmaton Valley High eighth-grader Makayla Brooks bested her sister, Shayla, and most everybody else Monday in winning three events at the Pleasanton Middle School Invitational.
Brooks won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump, while Shayla Brooks finished just behind in second in both the 200 and the long jump and third in the 100.
They also teamed up as part of the Wildcats’ 4×100-meter relay, along with Clara Boyd and Emily Smart to win that event.
The sisters were among several highlights for the Wildcats, who earned nine gold medals on the day.

Marmaton Valley eighth-grader Justice Pugh won both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, classmate Shelby Yoho won the girls’ 3200 and the 800-meter run, and Caiden Elliott won the 800-meter run among the seventh-grade boys. The eighth-grade girls’ medley relay team of Megan Ensminger, Yoho, Clara Boyd and Emily Smart also were winners.
