RICHMOND — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats opened the 2012 baseball season on the road Monday and lost two games.

“The first game looked like our first game of the season. We struggled defensively and with the bats,” said Derek Scharff, Wildcat head coach. “I was pleased with how ee bounced back and played in the second game.”

Central Heights High’s Vikings needed six innings to hand the Wildcats a loss in the opener. The Vikings led 3-0 after four innings but they produced four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win 10-0.

Jimmy Frye took the pitching loss for Marmton Valley. He worked five innings, giving up seven runs on two hits, two hit batters and two walks, plus he struck out two. Taylor Lhuillier pitched the sixth and allowed three runs on two walks and three hit batters plus had one strikeout.

The only hit of game was a single by Frye.

Cole Becker was on the hill for the Wildcats in the second game. He threw a complete game, giving up two hits, walking five and hitting three batters. He struck out four in the Wildcats’ 5-4 loss.

Central Heights scored three runs in the third and led 3-0 going into the fifth inning. Marmaton Valley took the lead by plating four runs in the fifth.

Two Wildcat errors on fly balls allowed the Vikings to regain the lead, 5-4, in the sixth.

Daylen Houk had a single and triple and Frye hit a double and a single. Derrick Carr rang up two base hits. Becker, Lhuillier, Sage Hall, Ryan Smith and Gage Stewart each had a single.
