MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s baseball and softball teams hosted Yates Center High’s squads Friday.
Yates Center defeated the Marmaton Valley baseball team 4-2 and 12-11. The MVHS boys are 0-8 overall.
It was 3-2 after two innings. Yates Center added a run in the seventh.
Ethan Ericson took the pitching loss for MVHS, allowing five hits, two walks and one hit batter and striking out 11. Marmaton Valley had five errors.
Ericson hit a single, a double and a triple and Landon Hammond had three singles. Hitting a single each were Tanner Lewis, Logan Booth, Nathan Whitcomb and Cole Becker.
Marmaton Valley led 8-0 after three innings of the second game. Yates Center had seven runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the seventh. MVHS scored three in the seventh.
Lewis, Jimmy Frye and Becker pitched for Marmaton Valley. Lewis and Frye each had three singles. Ericson singled and doubled while Booth and Hammond had two singles each. Taylor Lhuillier and Becker had a single apiece.
MARMATON VALLEY’S softball team posted its second win of the season against six losses, defeating Yates Center 8-3. Shelby Norman was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out five.
Marmaton Valley broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the second and led 5-2 after four. Kacie Shadden hit a triple, Cheyanne Miller doubled and Jamee McEndree and Alysha Westhoff each had a single.
Yates Center won the other game 6-5. Marmaton Valley scored four runs in the fifth to make it 5-4. Norman was the losing pitcher, surrendering four hits and striking out five.
Kailey Boyd had two singles. Miller and Westhoff each had a triple. Maggie Meiwes and Michelle Heskett had a single apiece.
There were no reports from the Yates Center.
On Thursday, Marmaton Valley’s girls lost 11-0 and 18-0 to Frontenac. Norman pitched in both games and Meiwes threw two innings in the 18-0 loss.
Johanna Northcutt, Westhoff and Shadden each had a single in the 18-0 loss. Marmaton Valley did not have a hit in the other game with Frontenac.
