MV Wildcat girls, Eagle boys lose in 2-1A regionals

LONGTON — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat softball team had a rough fourth inning and lost 16-6 to host Elk Valley High Monday in a Kansas Class 2-1A Regional Softball Tournament game.

Marmaton Valley scored four in the second and it was tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the fourth. 

Elk Valley took advantage of four walks and four hits to plate 10 runs.

“We were right on their heels and playing tough defense but then that 10-run inning took the wind out of our sails,” said Brenda Mills, Wildcat head coach.

Kailey Boyd and Kaitlin Ensminger pitched for the Wildcats. Marmaton Valley gave up 11 hits and issued 14 walks.

Boyd, Ensminger and Emily Boyd each had a double. 

Hitting a single each were Kacie Shadden, Tabitha Ford and MaRyiah Cavender.

Elk Valley plays top-seeded Uniontown in today’s regional semifinals at Yates Center. Yates Center plays Jayhawk-Linn in the other semifinal.

The championship game is at 6:30 tonight in Yates Center.

UNIONTOWN HIGH’s baseball team lost 13-0 to St. Paul in a Class 2-1A regional tournament semifinal at Arma Monday. St. Paul went on to win the regional title 4-0 over Northeast High of Arma.

No details of the Uniontown game were reported to the Register.
