UNIONTOWN —  A three-run rally in the fifth gave Marmaton Valley High’s softball team a lift Thursday at rival Uniontown.

But the host Eagles responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning to win, 6-3.

The Eagles then rallied late again in the nightcap, scoring five runs over the fifth and sixth innings to win, 10-6.

The losses put Marmaton Valley at 8-10 to wrap up the regular season. The Wildcats will take on Lebo/Waverly Tuesday at Lebo to open the Class 2-1A Regional Tournament.

Marmaton Valley twice left the bases loaded, but didn’t dent the scoreboard until Lexi Lowder, Aly Ard, Tayven Sutton and Madi Lawson all had singles in the fifth to knot the score at 3-3.

But the Eagles sandwiched a pair of singles around a double to start their half of the inning, leading to the three decisive runs.

Ard, Sutton and Lawson had the Wildcats’ three hits in the game.

LAWSON’S second-inning double, followed by Lowder’s RBI single pushed MV ahead 1-0 in the second game, but Uniontown responded with five in the bottom of the inning.

Undaunted, Kendall Scharff, Payton Scharff, Sutton and Mary Brown connected for hits to pull the Wildcats to within 5-4.

Payton Scharff and Sutton both walked in the fifth before Lawson singled as part of a two-run fifth, to give the Wildcats their first lead of the day, 6-5.

Uniontown bounced right back with two runs to take a 7-6 lead, before tacking on three insurance runs in the sixth.

Lawson had a single and double to pace the offense. Kendall Scharff singled twice. Aly Ard had a double. Payton Scharff, Sutton, Brown and Lowder also singled.
