MV routs Chetopa

Marmaton Valley's softball team kept up its winning ways Monday, by scoring a combined 39 runs in sweeping host Chetopa. The Wildcats will be at Jayhawk-Linn Thursday.

CHETOPA — Marmaton Valley High’s softball team put up  a pair of scores that could make a football team blush.

The Wildcats combined to score 39 runs in a doubleheader sweep of host Chetopa Monday, winning 17-5 and 22-9.

Marmaton Valley is back in action Thursday at Jayhawk-Linn.

The Wildcats led 6-5 before taking control late in Game 1, scoring five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth.

There were several hitting stars, including Payton Scharff, who rapped out two triples and a single. Mykayla Ard added three singles, while Aly Ard and Tayven Sutton both had a single and double. Brooklyn Adams added a triple. Kendall Scharff, Madi Lawson, Bailey LaRue and Gracie Yoho each singled once.

THE WILDCATS were just getting warmed up for the finale.

They jumped out to leads of 9-2 and 11-6 before ending with another flourish. Marmaton Valley scored six runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to cinch the sweep.

Payton Scharff pounded out four singles and a double. Aly Ard added a home run, double and two singles and Lawson had four singles. Sutton had three singles and a  triple, while Kendall Scharff and Yoho both doubled and singled twice. Adams had a single and a double. Mykayla Ard and LaRue both had a single.
