PLEASANTON — Marmaton Valley High’s volleyball team earned a split to wrap up the regular season Tuesday, defeating host Pleasanton before falling to Uniontown in straight sets. THE WILDCAT junior varsity also split its matches Tuesday, defeating Pleasanton in three sets, 25-2, 24-26, 15-13, and losing in three sets to the Eagles, 25-21, 25-27, 11-15.
The Wildcats defeated Pleasanton, 27-25, 25-22, behind Emily Meiwes with 14 points, Kaitlin Ensminger with five kills and Mackenzie Tynon with six points, seven kills and five blocks.
In the 25-13, 25-10 loss to Uniontown, the Wildcats were led by Meiwes with four points and Tapanga Turner with three kills.
Marmaton Valley (21-7) is the third seed at the Class 1A, Division I substate tournament today in Lebo. The Wildcats will play Marais des Cygnes Valley this afternoon, with the winner advancing to face Lebo in the semifinal. The championship match follows, with the winner advancing to the state tournament next weekend in Hays.
The JV ended its season with a 22-9 mark.
“The girls had a great season,” JV coach Jamie Stodgell said. “I’m proud of what each girl contributed to this team.”
Earning stats for the junior varsity were Tanna Lutz, 37 points and four kills; Kenzie Harrison, 19 points and two kills; Tessa Olson, 14 points, 12 kills and two blocks; Shauna Knight, nine points and two kills; Alex Thomas, eight points and two kills; and Misty Storrer, seven points, six kills and three blocks.
