MOUND CITY — Marmaton Valley High’s girls clamped down on defense and came away with a win Tuesday.

The Wildcats zipped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and were never threatened from there in a 38-18 victory over host Jayhawk-Linn.

The victory improves Marmaton Valley to 10-6 on the season.

All five Wildcat starters scored in the dominating first quarter before MV stretched its lead to 26-7 at the break.

Neither offense did much after the break. The Wildcats were held to four points in the third quarter, but still extended their lead by holding Jayhawk-Linn scoreless through the frame.

The sizable margin allowed head coach Becky Carlson to substitute liberally down the stretch.
