MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s girls couldn’t do much after  visiting Oswego High’s pressure defense put the Wildcats in an early 20-1 deficit.
Marmaton Valley found its footing after that, but still found itself on the short end of a 44-13 defeat Tuesday.
“We just didn’t handle the ball well, and it led to some easy transition points for them,” Wildcat head coach Gavin Cole said.
Emily Meiwes recorded the Wildcats’ first point of the game with a free throw with 5:49 left in the second quarter. Ashlynn Pinkerton’s jumper about 30 seconds later was the squad’s first field goal.
Kaitlin Ensminger added a pair of free throws and two field goals to give her a team-high six points. Pinkerton, Magie Stevenson and Misty Storrer each scored two. Meiwes had one.
“Misty only scored two points, but she’s all effort when she’s on the floor,” Cole said. “Kaitlin had some good looks.”
Gwyn Dean scored 13 and Hope Vore 11 to lead Oswego. All of the points for the pair came in the first half.
Marmaton Valley (2-9) returns to action Friday at Pleasanton.
