MV girls beat Uniontown

Marmaton Valley's girls basketball team pulled away after the half to defeat Uniontown on Tuesday night. The JV team was also victorious.

UNIONTOWN — Marmaton Valley High’s girls turned on the jets after halftime, and opened 2022 with a win in the process.

The Wildcats broke open an 8-7 halftime lead with a 13-3 third-quarter run to defeat Uniontown, 29-23.

The victory lifts Marmaton Valley to 3-1 on the season.

Four Wildcat players scored baskets in the pivotal third quarter as Marmaton Valley forged ahead, 21-10.

Uniontown rallied behind standout Danielle Howard, who scored 10 points in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to make up the deficit.

Marmaton Valley’s Janae Granere led the victors with 14 points, followed by Tayven Sutton and Kendall Scharff with four each.

Howard paced Uniontown with 15.

In junior varsity action, Marmaton Valley prevailed, 15-9, in two quarters.

Piper Barney led with eight points, Kaitlyn Drake, Brynn Newman and Brooklyn Adams scored two each and Madi Lawson had one.

Marmaton Valley resumes play Friday at Oswego.
