MORAN — The Marmaton Valley High Wildcats lost a heartbreaker Friday night against the Pleasanton High Blu-Jays.
The Wildcats kept the margin in single digits for the entire, but fell 39-36.
Senior Nathan Smart hit the opening baskets, two 2-pointers and a free throw, to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. From there, the Blue Jays went on an 8-0 run before Marmaton Valley scored the final three points of the quarter to tie the score at 8-8.
The game picked up speed for the remainder of the first half, with some key hits from Cole Becker, Carlos Gonzales, Lucas Hamlin and Chance Stevenson.
The Wildcats found themselves down 21-18 going into halftime.
But Marmaton Valley could never clear the three-point hurdle. Pleasanton led 29-26 after three quarters. Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth period.
Becker led Marmaton Valley with 10 points and nine rebounds. Smart contributed eight points and five boards. Chance Stevenson put up seven points, and had five steals.
