High School Tennis: Iola Mustangs
The Iola tennis team competed at Pittsburg on Tuesday.
Despite not having a No. 2 doubles team, the Mustangs placed third overall behind host Pittsburg and Chanute.
Jon Miller continued his run at No. 1 singles, going 1-1. Miller started off with an 8-0 loss to Pittsburgs Devin McAfee before beating Pittsburgs Kevin Carter 8-2. Miller lost 8-2 to Chanutes Fischer Lund before beating Parsons Caleb Valdez 8-1.
Elijah Fawson was the number two singles player and had the best performance of the team, grabbing three wins and a loss.
Fawson started off with an 8-3 loss to Pitts-burgs Dakota Caudle before beating Pitts-burgs PJ Monsour 8-2, Chanutes Lawson Collins 8-0 and Parsons Pierre Thomas 8-5.
Bret Plumlee and Ea-son Cheung got their second taste of action working together at the No. 1 singles spot finishing 2-2.
They opened the tournament by losing to Pittsburgs first team 8-1 before beating Pitts-burgs second team 8-4. They lost to Chanute 8-6 and finished things off with an 8-6 win over Parsons.
Up next, the Mustangs will travel to Chanute today.
