Humboldt High is hosting the annual Lindsey Friederich Memorial Softball Tournament and Walter Johnson Baseball Tournament Friday.
The softball tournament is in Sweatt Park on Manion Field. The first game starts at noon.
The baseball tournament is at Humboldt’s Walter Johnson Field. The first game starts at 10 a.m.
Iola High’s Mustangs are out to defend their 2009 Walter Johnson title. They beat Neodesha 11-0 in the championship game after defeating Yates Center High’s Wildcats in the first round.
Humboldt High’s Cubs lost to Yates Center in the consolation game a year ago.
Friday’s Walter Johnson Tournament is set up just like last year. The Cubs play Neodesha High’s Bluestreaks at 10 a.m. Iola and Yates Center play around noon.
The consolation came is at 2:45 p.m. and the championship game starts approximately at 5 o’clock.
Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs are two-time defending champions of the tournament named for a former HHS player, Lindsey Friederich.
Friederich lost her battle with cancer several years ago. The tournament named in her honor is co-hosted by Humboldt and Yates Center, switching each year between the schools.
On their home field Friday, the Lady Cubs play Yates Center in the first game of the 2010 edition at noon. Iola High’s Fillies, who were third a year ago, play Neodesha around 1:30 p.m.
The tournament’s consolation game is at 3:15 with the championship game slated for 5:30 p.m.
Game times for both tournament could vary because of weather, run-rule wins or fast games.
