Mustangs finish fourth at Pittsburg Invitational

High School Tennis: Iola Mustangs

Iola High team sent two singles players to compete in the Pittsburg Invitational on Thursday.

Junior Jon Miller and sophomore Elijah Fawson filled the Mustangs one and two singles spots.

Miller went 1-1 in pool play after an 8-2 loss to Dempsey Shannon of Bishop Miege and an 8-2 win over Labette County’s Jaqwaun Williams.

Miller then took on Fort Scott’s Nick Patton in the third-place match and lost 8-7 in seven tie-breaks.

Fawson also went 1-1 in pool play losing to Bishop Miege’s Evan Acuff and beating Labette’s Zane Sweeten 8-2.

Fawson won the third-place match versus Danny Bell of Pittsburg 8-3.

For the first time in several tournaments, the Mustangs will send a full lineup to the Neodesha Invitational today to wrap up their three-tournament week.
