Mustangs finish fifth at Parsons

PARSONS — Iola High’s Mustangs combined for a fifth-place finish in Thursday’s Parsons High Invitational golf tournament.

The Mustangs had a 383 team score for the 18-hole competition. Fort Scott rolled to the team championship with a 343 followed by Parsons with a 357, Pittsburg at 366 and Labette County at 379.

Chanute fired a 390 for sixth place. Independence was seventh with a 431 and Parsons’ B team was eighth at 447.

Leading the Mustangs was freshman Isaiah Grover. Grover had rounds of 48 and 44 for a 92  to finish in a tie for 11th. Freshman Adam Peterson shot a 96 (51-45) and tied for 16th.

Senior Jarrett Mosbrucker carded a 97 (48-49) and finished in a tie for 18th. One stroke behind was sophomore Weston Hines with a 98 (51-47).

Freshman Matt Jacobs came in with a 106. He had rounds of 47 and 59.

Gilvon Darkis of Parsons, who had been suspended for two tournaments by his coach for several postings on Twitter concerning the coach and Parsons High golf team, won the tournament with a 79. Fort Scott’s Tucker Horn and Conner Antonetti and Pittsburg’s Andrew Joy and Johnny Randall each shot an 83, placing second through fifth respectively.

Iola High’s varsity is off until April 26 when it travels to Columbus for the third Southeast Kansas League designated tournament.
