The Mustangs and Fillies ran hard last Thursday at the Parsons Invitational at Big Hill Lake. The extra effort put both teams in first place.
The varsity girls scored 51 points with Independence coming in second with 73 points and Anderson County finishing third with 86 points.
Elka Billings and Kelsey Larson each had a top five finish with Billings coming in third with a time of 22:59 and Larson fourth with a time of 23:21.
Rachel Bycroft finished seventh (24:23), Madisyn Holloway 18th (25:34), Lorie Carpenter 19th (25:41), Audrey Coltrane 23rd (26:08) and Nora Gostner 26th (26:48).
The boys were even more impressive, taking first with 47 points while Anderson County came in a distant second with 81 points and Labette County third with 94 points.
Freshman Jack Adams continued his impressive season with a first place finish with a time of 19:07.
Cole Regehr (19:57), Nathan Louk (19:57) and Elijah Fawson (20:10) also finished in the top 10 at seventh, eighth and 10th respectively.
Bret Plumlee finished 20th with a time of 20:56, Bryce Andrews 22nd with a time of 21:08 and Riley Jay 27th with a time of 21:31.
Both teams, along with the junior varsity and the middle school teams, will compete in the Doc Stiles Invitational at Allen Community College today. The junior varsity girls take the course at 3:35 followed by the boys at 4:15.
The varsity girls will run at 4:50 with the varsity boys right after at 5:25.
The middle school will close out the day with the seventh-graders running at 6 p.m. and the 8th graders at 6:15.
