Iola High’s Mustangs will play at home one more time in 2010.
The Mustangs host a first-round regional baseball game Monday at Allen County Community College. Osawatomie High School is the regional tournament host and opted for the option of higher seeded teams to host opening round games.
Iola is 11-7 and earned the No. 3 seed in the 2010 Kansas Class 4A Baseball Regional Tournament next week. The Mustangs play at 6 p.m. at Red Devil Field against No. 6 seeded Prairie View (7-13).
Osawatomie (15-5) is the top seed in the tournament and host Anderson County (4-15), the No. 8 seed, Monday. Fourth-seeded Ottawa (12-8) hosts fifth-seeded Louisburg (7-13)
Spring Hill (14-6) is the No. 2 seed playing Paola (4-15) Monday. The winner of that game plays the winner of the Iola-Prairie View game.
Semifinals are Wednesday and play shifts to Osawatomie. If Iola wins Monday, the Mustangs play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The championship game is 7 p.m. Wednesday. The regional champion goes to the Kansas Class 4A State Baseball Tournament, May 28-29, in Salina.
The Mustangs were seeded third last year and lost 4-1 to Louisburg in the first round. New to the regional are Ottawa and Spring Hill.
Fort Scott and Chanute join Labette County, Coffeyville, Columbus, Independence, Parsons and Girard in a regional hosted by Girard.
