High School Golf: Iola
The Iola golf team hosted the Buck Quincy Invitational on Monday at Allen County Country Club.
Led by junior Jeremy Waldman who shot a 100 on the day, the Mustangs continued to have trouble finding success.
Despite their struggles, the Mustangs were in it for the duration of the tournament and finished only seven strokes out of third place.
Head coach Nick McAnulty said that the gap between his team and success could easily be made up if their short game improves.
Our putting still isnt where we want it to be as a team, McAnulty said. Im sure there are seven or more strokes that we could have gained just on the green that could have helped to move us up into the third place slot.
In the invitational, senior Drake Sell shot a 105, junior Nic Zimmerman shot a 113 and freshmen Josh Kaufman and Grant Luedke shot a 115 and a 135 respectively.
The junior varsity team will compete at Independence Monday while the varsity will compete at Coffeyville on Tuesday.
