Mustang wrestling trio take third places at Caney

CANEY — Iola High seniors Zack Vaughn and Devin Culler claimed third-place medals at Saturday’s 38th Annual KAN-OKLA Classic Wrestling Tournament hosted by Caney Valley High School.
Also taking third place was freshman Trey Colborn. The Mustangs, who had placed third a year ago as a team, finished eighth with 94 points. South Moore High School from Oklahoma won the team title with 285.5 points and Caney Valley was second with 194.5 points.
Culler finished third in the 160-pound weight class and Vaughn was third at 170. Colborn took third in the 285-pound class.
Freshman Kaleb Mock placed fifth at 126-pounds and sophomore Bryce Misenhelter was fifth at 182 pounds. Wrestling as a non-scoring member from Iola was Chase Roettgen, a junior, was seventh in the 182-pound class.
Sophomore Mike Armstrong finished sixth in the 120-pound class. Denton Christian was seventh at 195 pounds and sophomore Jacob Rhoads was eighth at 145 pound.
No details on individual matches were reported to the Register.
The Iola High wrestling team goes to the Anderson County High Invitational in Garnett this coming Saturday.
