GARNETT — Iola High’s varsity wrestling team finished with 67 team points for ninth place at Saturday’s Anderson County High Invitational.
Mike Armstrong collected the silver medal in the 120-pound weight class for Iola. Zack Rosenkrans of Blue Valley Southwest beat Armstong 8-2 in the championship match.
Armstrong lost to Rosenkrans 9-6 in the pool action earlier in the day. He beat Andrew Fix of Parsons 12-9 then had a bye. In the bracket action, Armstrong defeated Jordan Mead of Independence 2-0 to reach the title match.
Despite losing all three matches he had in the tournament, Trey Colborn earned the fourth-place medal in the 285-pound class. He was pinned by Blake Howey of Anderson County, Jake Green of Central Heights and lost 3-2 to Kyle Pepper of Blue Valley Southwest.
Iola’s Brent Clark, who was 2-2 in pool competition, was placed in the fifth-place match in the pound division, where he beat Donavan Milliken of Central Heights 14-8.
Kaleb Mock also took fifth in the 126-pound class. After going 0-3 in pool action, he had a major decision 15-4 over Riley McMillian of Erie then pinned Brandon Dick of Independence.
Jacob Rhoads came back strong in the bracket matches after an 0-3 pool mark. Rhoads pinned Jeremy Chaloupek of Parsons for fifth place. He had pinned Trace Snyder of Jayhawk-Linn in 52 seconds.
Bryce Misenhelter rang up a fifth-place finish at 182. He pinned Gage Holler of Central Heights in the fifth-place match. He then pinned Tim Cornett of Anderson County in bracket action.
Misenhelter was 1-2 in pool matches. His win was a pin of C.J. Hitt of Independence.
Denton Christian wrestled twice in 195-pound class pool action, losing 7-2 to Tyler Daniels of Osawatomie and by pin to Kenny Brown of Caney Valley. He placed fifth.
Zeph Larney went 2-2 in pool action with a 6-1 decision over River Richesin of Caney Valley and a pin of Chase Turner of Frontenac.
Larney ended up wrestling for seventh in the 152-pound class. He was pinned by Billy Virtue of Parsons to finish eighth.
Cody Conner lost to Thatcher Murdock by technical fall, 16-1, in the 132-pound class. He lost three matches in pool action and tallied a win. He pinned Easton Ballew of Independence.
Conner lost by a pin to Tanner Craig in the seventh-place match.
The Iola High wrestlers travel to Erie Thursday for final varsity action before the Christmas break.
