Mustang JV wrestlers place at LCHS tourney

ALTAMONT — Iola High School’s junior varsity wrestlers competed in Saturday’s Labette County High JV Invitational.
“A few of our guys wrestled really well,” said Ron Schomaker, IHS wrestling coach. “We beat some guys who we lost to earlier in the year.
“There were some pleasant surprises. Most of our kids got some good match experience in, which is what we need.”
Joe Myrick placed first in the 140-pound bracket. He went 3-1, pinning Freeman of Columbus and James of Fredonia with a 10-3 win over Yarnell of Erie. He lost 9-2 to Kennedy of Parsons.
At 152, Kody Mullins placed third and Justin Baker went 0-3. Mullins’ win was a 9-2 decision over Baker.
Mullins was pinned by Norris of Labette County and Lewis of Chanute. Baker was pinned by Norris and lost 11-4 to Lewis.
In the 160-pound class, Zach Crawford finished second and Chase Roettgen was third. Crawford beat Roettgen 13-1, pinned Miller of Anderson County and defeated Thorensen of Cherryvale 17-0. He lost to Hodges of Cherryvale 16-4 and to Maxwell of Pittsburg 18-7.
Roettgen was pinned by Moody of Anderson Count and lost to Crawford and Thorenson. He defeated Hodges 7-5 and Miller 18-10.
