PARSONS — No rain in sight and the Southeast Kansas League golfers got in another tournament at Katy Golf Course in Parsons Thursday.
“It was a great day for golf at the Katy,” said Rick Horton, Iola High golf coach.
The Iola High Mustangs finished eighth in the SEK designated 18-hole tournament. The Mustangs combined for a 403.
Chanute won the team championship with a 324 led by Skyler Miner’s 75. Miner was the tournament’s top medalist by three strokes.
Iola’s best score of the day was turned in by Kris Collins with an 87. Collins had rounds of 44 and 43 to finish 17th.
Jarrett Mosbrucker shot a 104 (57-47) and Nick Jacobs came in at 105 (54-51). Doug Stewart carded a 107 (55-52).
Zach Crawford had a 118 (68-50) and Sam Shallah had a 120 (63-57).
After three of four SEK designated tournaments, Pittsburg leads in the team standings by one stroke. Pittsburg is at 1,005 while Coffeyville and Chanute each have 1,006.
Independence is fourth at 1,034 followed by Fort Scott, 1,071, Labette County, 1,116 and Parsons at 1,116.
Iola sits at eighth with a 1,222. Columbus is ninth at 1,254.
Mitch Hale of Chanute has a one stroke lead individually over Jon Nichols of Pittsburg, 237 and 238.
Iola’s Collins is 30th on the SEK individual list with a 288. Collins has lowered his score in each tournament. He had a 99 at Iola’s SEK tournament and at Parsons he dropped 12 strokes off his game.
Iola hosts the annual IHS Buck Quincy Invitational tournament Monday at Allen County Country Club. Play begins at 8:30 a.m.
