For the fourth time in the last five years, the Iola ninth-grade boys won their freshman tournament by beating  Fort Scott 52-40.

Iola beat Chanute earlier this season.

The Mustangs got out to a 13-11 lead after the first quarter and stretched that to a 28-20 lead going into the half. Fort Scott cut the Mustangs’ lead to two, 37-35, after the third quarter but a 15-5 fourth quarter locked up the win for Iola.

Landon Carson had 16 points in the win followed by Dillon Bycroft who had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brayden Cole joined them in double-figures with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Isaac Badders had five points, Grant Luedke scored four points, Jack Adams had three points and Josh Kaufman had two points.

The Mustangs and Fillies varsity and junior varsity teams will travel to Chanute on Friday.
