FORT SCOTT — Iola High’s C team brought its A game to the Fort Scott Freshmen Tournament Monday. IN THEIR nightcap, Iola trailed Chanute 15-8 after one quarter, 25-23 at halftime and 39-37 after three.
The Mustangs came from behind in a pair of games to knock off host Fort Scott and Chanute.
The Mustangs overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to knock off the host Tigers, 60-56.
Iola then fell behind Chanute in the second game before rallying to win, 52-49.
The wins gave Iola a 3-0 record in tournament play. The players earned gold medals for their work.
Ben Cooper scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter opener against Fort Scott as the Mustangs ended the contest on a 22-8 run.
Braden Plumlee added 14 and Chase Regehr had 13.
Iola trailed the Tigers, 32-24, at the break before cutting the deficit to 45-38 after three.
Joel Zimmerman added six points. Isaiah Fawson and Mason Ingle added four each.
The Mustangs ended the game on a 15-11 run to seal the win.
Cooper duplicated his scoring output from the first game with 17 points. Ingle added 12. Plumlee scored eight, Regehr had seven and Zane Beasley scored six. Iola hit 20 of 25 free throws.
The C team will join Iola’s varsity and junior varsity squads with home games Friday against Fort Scott.
