Consider this school record thoroughly smashed.
Allen Community College’s old school mark in the 200-meter dash was topped — not once, but twice — by a pair of local sprinting superstars.
Terika Henry, one of the most highly decorated sprinters in ACC history, finished the 200 in 23.83 seconds, nearly a full second below the old school record.
The blistering time came as Henry won the 200 at the Butch Reynolds Invite in El Dorado March 22.
Meanwhile, teammate Vanessa Style would have had the school record as well finishing in 24.49 seconds. She wound up second to Henry at the meet.
Each also qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships May 15-17 in Mesa, Ariz.
Style didn’t go home empty-handed. She also took home first place with a school record, national qualifying mark of 14.13 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.
Style broke a school record that had stood for more 20 years, ACC head coach Vince DeGrado said.
Allen qualified other athletes for nationals on the men’s side.
Bruce Barclay and Rohan Mullings each qualified by finishing 1-2 in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. Barclay finished in 14.56 seconds; Mullings just behind in 14.78 seconds.
Brock Artis qualified in the 5000-meter run at the Florida State Relays March 21-22 in Tallahassee.
He finished his 5K in 15 minutes, 30.0 seconds.
Meanwhile, Markeen Caine is nationals-bound after finishing the 800-meter run in 1:54.77.
Allen’s athletes will be at the Emporia State Relays April 5 before heading to the K.T. Woodman Relays the following weekend in Wichita and the Kansas Relays in Lawrence May 17-19.
The Region VI and Jayhawk East Outdoor Championships are May 2-3 in Arkansas City.
