Racing: Humboldt Speedway

HUMBOLDT — With lightning to the south, Whelen All-American Series racing lit up the track at Humboldt Speedway Friday night with five exciting classes and momentum changing A-features.

In McCarthy Auto Group/ Whelen All-American A-Modifieds, current points leader and mid-season champion Tanner Mullens of Wichita seemed to have the night’s A-feature well in hand.

On lap 18 of the 20, Mullens had second place Tad Davis covered en route to the white flag.

However, Mullens’s fortune changed as he drove too hard into turn one and spun giving Davis the lead. Davis took the checkers with Mullens settling for second.

Tyler Davis of Haysville rounded out the top three.

Mullens picked up the mid-season trophy, out-distancing Tyler Davis by 93 points and Tad Davis by 95 points.

In Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mods, Edgerton’s Dakota Foster erased some personal Humboldt demons on his way to the the win.

Foster, starting fifth, used patience and the lower line to methodically pick off cars who chose to run the higher line around the track.

Chanute’s Tim Van Gotten and Pittsburg ace Brian McGowen completed the top three.

Heat race wins went to Chanute’s Bryce Weldon, Bonner Springs’ Ethan Isaacs and defending Division II National Champion Cody Jolly.

Jolly, picked up the mid-season Championship.

This Friday, the NASCAR B-Mods will hit the track competing against Sooner Southern Sport Mods for a $1000 payday.
