The Marmaton Valley volleyball team may have fallen short of a 1A Regional Championship on Tuesday but they did enough to advance on to Sub-State on Saturday at Rosalia-Flinthills High School.

The third-seeded Wildcats went 2-1 in the tournament, sweeping six-seed Sedan and two-seed Crest before falling in two-sets to one-seed Chetopa.

An article published in the Register on Wednesday stated that the Wildcats season was over after their loss to Chetopa but they actually will advance on to be the seventh seed in the Rosalia-Flinthills Sub-State tournament on Saturday. They will face 38-1 two-seed Argonia.

Marmaton Valley opened things up with a Sedan team that came in with just one win. They beat then 25-12 and 25-5.

Patricia Outlan had 10 kills in the win followed by Bailey Griffith who had nine kills and 12 total points.

Kayla Ard had four kills and Paige Becker had 13 points.

The Wildcats advanced on to face a second-seeded Crest team that had swept them just one week prior.

They took set one 25-22 and set two 25-11 to get the sweep.

“The girls played with a lot of confidence against Crest,” head coach Terra Kegler said. “We were very aggressive and were clicking. We also served very well.”

Outlan had 12 kills and four blocks, Griffith had eight kills and five blocks, Karlie Stephens had three kills and 10 points, Becker had seven points and Aly Ard had six points.

With the Lady Lancers dispatched, the Wildcats faced a great Chetopa team that dispatched them in two sets 25-19 and 25-18.

Griffith had six kills and four blocks and Outlan had four kills and two blocks.

“The game versus Chetopa wasn’t our best performance,” Kegler said. “The intensity level wasn’t as high and we played soft.”

Two other area teams also competed in the Moran regional including the aforementioned Lady Lancers and Southern Coffey County.

Crest opened up with a sweep of winless of Altoona Midway (25-5, 25-5) before falling to Marmaton Valley in a sweep.
