MORAN — The Marmaton Valley softball team opened the 2019 season with two statement wins on Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats showed zero signs of rust or wear after a long offseason and no one felt that more than the visitors from Pleasanton who lost 19-4 and 16-1.

The wins may be against a Pleasanton team that struggled last year but the dominance in both games show that this very well could be a breakout season for a team with plenty of veteran talent.

Senior Karlie Stephens leads the way for that talent and she dominated both on the mound and at the plate.

She pitched seven innings total in the two games and allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits, and two walks. She struck out five.

Stephens had three hits between the two games and 10 RBIs including six in game one.

Shaylee Woods had two hits in game one as well and Patricia Outlan had a hit and four RBIs.

In game two, Aly Ard was the lone multi-hit batter with two hits and four RBIs. Kendall Scharff, Kayla Ard, Kirsten Adams, Paige Becker and Becca Reider also chipped in a hit each.

The Lady Wildcats will host Altoona-Midway on Monday before hitting the road and playing St. Paul on Thursday.
