Marmaton Valley traveled to Burlingame on Monday for a doubleheader and emerged with one win and one loss.

In game one, the Wildcats topped Burlingame, 7-6.

Freshman Karlie Stephens continued her outstanding first season as the Wildcat ace earning the game one win.

The team entered with a 6-4 deficit, but were able to rally for three runs in the final frame.

Ashlynn Pinkerton got the rally started with a leadoff single to left field.

After an out, Kyla Drake singled and Shailee Woods knocked a double to center field to tie the game.

After another out, Makayla Brooks drove in the go-ahead run with a single and Marmaton Valley held on for the win.

In game two, Marmaton Valley was on the other side of a close game, failing to mount a late rally and falling 5-4.

THE WILDCAT baseball team continued its early season struggles on Monday.

The Wildcat defense fell apart in game one, allowing Burlingame to mount a 16-1 win.

“We did a terrible job fielding the ball,” Marmaton Valley coach Derek Scharff said.

In game two the offense started to click, but not enough to secure a win for the Wildcats. They lost game two 15-11.

Justice Pugh, Gage Adams and Isaac Heskett each collected two hits in the game.

“We have four JV games this week so we will work on some other guys pitching and continue to work on defense,” Scharff said.
