MADISON — Trevor Wilson ran for 150 yards and scored two touchdowns as Marmaton Valley High School won big on the road, beating Madison 46-6 on Friday night. The Wildcats move up to 5-1 on the season as district play begins next week.
Justice Pugh, Isaac Heskett and Caiden Elliot scored one touchdown each. Elliot also threw a touchdown to Korbin Smith.
“I’m proud of how hard we ran the ball and how well our defense was up front tonight,” head coach Gavin Cole said. “Our offensive line deserves a lot of credit for the holes they opened up and we were able to control the game with our rushing attack.”
The Wildcat defense held Madison to only 87 total yards with 55 of them on the ground. Pugh caught an interception for the only turnover of the game.
“Defensively I thought this was one of our best games,” Cole said. “We tackled extremely well. They only allowed a touchdown on a trick play where one of our guys missed his assignment and got caught watching the backfield. Other than that, it was a good defensive effort.”
Cole said he hopes the team can maintain their blocks in the open field for even longer runs on offense. He expects more progress from his receivers and other blockers in the coming weeks.
The Wildcats will host St. Paul next week for a district play game. The 5-1 Indians are coming off of their first loss of the season
