Playing at home was good for Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans but not so for Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats Tuesday. Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs, meanwhile, were .500 on the road.
At Moran, Marmaton Valley’s Wildcats lost two tightly contested matches that both went to three sets. Eureka beat Marmaton Valley 22-25, 25-8, 25-8 and Yates Center defeated Marmaton Valley 20-25, 25-19, 25-22.
“We did some good things but we definitely did not play to our full potential,” said Terra Kegler, MVHS head coach. “Mentally, we just weren’t there.”
Against Eureka, Kaitlin Ensminger served for seven points, had four kills and three blocks. Kailey Boyd had four blocks at the net. Tabitha Ford had 24 set assists. Kacie Shadden had four kills and six service points. Emily Meiwes had six points.
In the Yates Center match, Boyd and Meiwes each had 13 service points and seven kills. Ford served for 11 points and had 25 assists.
The MVHS junior varsity beat Eureka 25-13, 25-15 and Yates Center 25-6, 25-15. Kenzie Harrison served for 35 points in the two matches. Mackenzie Tynon had 10 kills and three blocks at the net.
Humboldt lost to Oswego 25-20, 25-18 at Neodesha. The Lady Cubs fought back to beat Neodesha 25-18, 29-31, 25-21.
“We did not play our best volleyball but I’m extremely proud of the way the girls fought back in the Neodesha match,” said Stephanie Splechter, HHS head coach.
Delaney Umholtz had four service aces against Oswego and Anna Setter had four set assists. Kayle Riebel had four blocks and one kill at the net. Sheri Middleton had five kills and two blocks for the Lady Cubs.
In the Neodesha marathon match, Setter had 21 set assists while Middleton delivered nine kills and six blocks at the net. Kayle Riebel had seven kills and two blocks. Breanna Kline had six kills. Umholtz had two ace serves.
At Le Roy, Southern Coffey County beat St. Paul 25-22, 25-17, downed Crest 25-10, 25-10 and defeated Pleasanton 25-2, 25-11.
Sarah Webb had 24 kills and eight blocks on the night. Breanna Isch had six blocks and six kills at the net plus was 23 of 23 serving the volleyball.
Martyna Hegwald was credited with 18 set assists for the three matches. Amanda Sherwood had 13 assists.
“We played with better consistency,” said Jeff True, SCCH head coach.
The Lady Titan junior varsity lost to St. Paul 25-20, 25-12.
