Marmaton Valley cruises past Crest Lancers at home

Marmaton Valley softball cruised past their guest Crest Thursday evening. The Lady Cats beat the Lady Lancers 13-2 in game one and 17-7 in game two.

With the wins, Marmaton Valley moves to 5-3 this season while Crest remains winless.

In game one, both teams went scoreless through the first two innings before a three-run bottom of the first gave Marmaton Valley a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats scored another run in the bottom of the fourth before Crest cut the Marmaton Valley lead to two in the top of the fifth inning.

That didn’t last long though as the Lady Cats scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth before scoring another three in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Karlie Stephens earned the win for Marmaton Valley allow two runs on four runs and five walks with a whopping 14 strikeouts in the six innings pitched.

Crest’s Makayla Jones earned the loss in relief allowing 11 runs (five earned) on five hits and seven walks with two walks and a home run in three innings.

Trinitee Gutierrez was the lone multi-hit batter, recording four RBI’s on two hits. Shay-lee Woods hit the team’s home run for her lone home run and RBI of the game.

Crest only had four hits with Aubrey Holleran, Jones, Cassie Bowen and Camryn Stricker each getting knocks.

The Wildcats also grabbed 12 steals led by Sarah Spillman’s four and Juliana Sprague’s three.

Game two started off much better for the Lady Lancers and even led to them holding a lead throughout the first two and a half innings.

The Lady Lancers put up seven runs in the first inning and chased Lady Cats starter Kayla Ard after two-thirds of an inning.

Stephens stepped back in after that though and in addition to winning her second game of the day, she kept Crest off the board for the rest of the game and only allowed them two more hits.

Marmaton Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the first and another run in the bottom of the second before pelting the Lady Lancers with a nine-run bottom of the third to take a 14-7 lead.

No one scored in the fourth and the Wildcats put up another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to trigger the run-rule.

Holleran earned the loss allowing 17 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits and eight walks with three strikeouts in the five innings.
