WINFIELD — Iola’s Kaden Macha, fresh off his Class 4A state golfing championship, is in second place in his age group headed into today’s third and final round of the 54th annual Kansas Boys Junior Golf Tournament. ANOTHER golfer with local ties, Matt Percy, is tied for 17th in the 15-year-old division.
Through two rounds, Macha is 8-over par at 152. He scored a first-round 78 to tie for the lead before conditions toughened considerably Wednesday.
Macha had a second-round 78.
He is one stroke behind Wichita’s Cole Christian in the 16-year-old division. Wichita’s Kale Reynolds is one stroke behind Macha at 9-over. Two others are two strokes behind.
Macha’s score is good for 12th overall.
Percy is the son of IHS baseball coach Mark Percy and coming off a state golf appearance as a freshman at Central Heights High School. He finished 12th in the state in Class 3A.
He recorded a first-round 78 and a second-round 90. His score has him in a tie for 95th.
The tournament is at Winfield’s Quail Ridge Golf Course.
