Macha and Percy place at Kansas Optimist golf tourney

EMPORIA — Kaden Macha of Iola and Matt Percy of Gas played in the Kansas District Optimist International Junior Golf Championship tournament last Friday.

Macha, who played for Iola High School as a freshman this spring, shot a 79 for the 18-hole tournament. The tournament was held at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

Percy, who played for Central Heights Junior High in Richmond as an eighth-grader this spring, carded an 80. Both local golfers finished in the top 20 of the boys’ 14-15-year-old division.

Peter Kierks of Leawood, Andy Spencer of Prairie Village and Ryan Elder of Wamego each shot a 73 and finished first, second and third, respectively.

Winners in the two boys’ divisions and two girls’ divisions qualify to play at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in July.
