A walk-off RBI by sophomore first baseman Krue Lowe in the 12th inning gave the Red Devils the only win of Saturday’s doubleheader after a rain delay stymied their sweep in the third inning of the finale.

Allen took the first game of a doubleheader with the Labette Cardinals 2-1 in extra innings.

Despite a stunning 5 1/3 innings performance by freshman pitcher Jace Arnold, who tallied three strikeouts before leaving with an apparent injury to his throwing arm, freshman reliever Luke Brodrick got the win with a strikeout and walk while keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

While tying Lowe for the team lead in RBIs in the opener, freshman outfielder Jose Zorilla put Allen on the scoreboard with the first of his two hits in the fifth inning — tying the game 1-1. Allen pitchers Jarrett Bell, Manuel Toro, Arnold and Broderick held up their end of the six-inning stalemate, Lowe plated the game winning run for the 2-1 victory.

Bell ended the day with five innings on the mound while tying Arnold for the team lead in strikeouts with three. Toro and Broderick had one with Bell allowing Labette’s only earned run. As the finale began, the rain began pouring down. At that point, Allen had a 6-1 lead but officials delayed the game.

With the win, the Red Devils are 13-29 overall and 9-18 in the Jayhawk Conference for sixth in the Western Conference standings. They host the archrival Neosho Panthers (21-26, 8-20) for a Thursday doubleheader before heading to Chanute Saturday for another round of games with the Panthers.
