Looney rolls to take Humboldt victory

HUMBOLDT -— Late Models, presented by G & G Dozer, rolled into Humboldt Speedway on Friday evening for the first time in 2019. Racing action saw Republic, Missouri ace Payton Looney drive away from the field in both his heat race and the A Feature en route to his first win at Humboldt Speedway. Looney rode the highline to the $1000 victory on the 3/8th mile banking of Humboldt. Nevada’s Larry Ferris and Nowata, Oklahoma’s Cory Green rounded out the top three. Heat RAce wins went to Looney and Ferris.

In Ray’s Metal Depot NASCAR B Mods, Ft. Scott, Kansas’ Andy Bryanyt continued his winning ways as he topped the field on his way to win number seven on the season. Bryant, starting outside the pole to Chanute’s Tim Van Gotten, go the early jump and never looked back. Tyler Kidwell ran second with Humboldt’s Levi McGowen outdistancing his cousin Brian McGowen for third and fourth respectively. Van Gotten completed the top five. Heat Race wins went to Kidwell, Bryant and Van Gotten.

Home Savings Bank Factory stocks saw Chanute’s Jon Westhoff wire the field as he started on the pole and led every lap in his victory. Chanute’s Jacob Ellison, starting tenth, finished second with Dereck Wilson rounding out the top three. Heat Race wins went to Westhoff and Humboldt’s Wayne Johnson.

Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Mods saw Rob Muillenburg from Sparta, Missouri pick win number six on the year as he started on the pole and held off Ft. Scott’s Trevor Vann for the win. Muillenburg methodically managed the slick track conditions to pick up his sixth. Vann and Jerry Brown rounded out the top three.

In the night’s final feature, O’Reilly Sports Compacts, James Lemke from Leavenworth, Kansas started fourteenth and moved through the field taking the lead in the closing laps to secure the win. Lemke, suffering from a flat tire in his heat race, started in the rear but with patience and some luck picked up his second Feature win on the season. Grain Valley, Missouri’s Will Guthrie and Brandon Vink rounded out the top three. Competitors in the Sport Compact class win vye for $500 next Friday courtesy of Aiello Fireworks.

Racing returns to the 3/8th mile Humboldt Speedway on June 28th, competing that evening will be Ray’s Metal Depot NASCAR B Modifieds, Home Savings Bank NASCAR Factory Stocks, O’Reilly Auto Part Sport Compacts , Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Mods and McCarthy Auto Group USRA Modifieds racing for $1000. O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compact will be racing for $500 courtesy of Aiello Fireworks. Following the races Humboldt Speedway’s annual firework display.
