SALINA — Kaden Macha and Shane Walden led Iola Middle School to back-to-back league championships on the golf course.
The two soon-to-be Iola High freshmen competed in the 52nd annual Kansas Boys Junior Amateur Championship last week in Salina.
They were joined by Matt Percy, who played golf for Central Heights Junior High this spring and is the son of Mark Percy of Iola.
Macha and Walden made the cut of the field of 169 individuals for the final round on Thursday. Macha finished 70th with a 237 for the 54-hole event. Macha had rounds of 81, 77 and 79.
Walden ended up in a tie for 71st with a 239 (78-80-81). Percy didn’t make the third-round cut and finished tied for 149th with rounds of 88 and 81.
In the 14-and-under ranks, Macha was 11th and Walden tied for 12th. Percy was tied for 20th.
The tournament was Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Salina Municipal Golf Course. Michael Gellerman, Sterling, won the overall title with a 203.
