Legion continues to win

 FORT SCOTT — Iola’s American Legion AA baseball team escaped Fort Scott with two more wins Thursday night. Extra innings were needed for game one. The Indians won 5-3 in 10 innings.

Derrick Weir led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a single, double and home run, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Alex Murrow had the other RBI. Caleb Vanatta had three hits, including two singles and a double. Caleb D’Armond had two singles and Eric Heffern had a single.

Aaron Barclay started the game, going three innings. He struck out three, walked five and gave up two runs on three hits. Trent Latta finished, pitching the final seven innings. He struck out eight batters, walked four and gave up one run on five hits.

Game two resulted in a 5-0 Indians win.

Weir led the offense again, supplying the only two RBIs. The other three runs were unearned. Weir had two singles. Latta had a single. Barclay had two singles. Drew Faulhaber scored twice.

Grayson Pearish pitched all five innings to earn the win. He only gave up two hits in the shutout, striking out two and walking one.

The Indians (18-1), will play a doubleheader this afternoon, starting at 4 o’clock in Burlington. Iola plays Burlington in the opener before taking on Ottawa in the nightcap.
