CHETOPA — Brayden Lawson ended the regular season with a bang Friday.
The Marmaton Valley High junior erupted for a career-high 34 points as the Wildcats throttled Chetopa, 83-29.
The win gives the Wildcats an 8-12 record as they enter the Class 1A, Division I playoffs.
Marmaton Valley, which has won its last three games by a combined 90 points, is the fourth seed and will host Flinthills (8-12) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The winner advances to the substate semifinals against top-seeded Olpe (17-2) on March 3 at Oswego. Substate finals are March 4.
Lawson was dominant from the outset against the Hornets, pouring in 17 points in the first quarter and 10 more in the second.
His outburst paved the way as Marmaton Valley led 26-14 after one quarter and 41-19 at the break.
Jaedon Granere and Dylan Drake picked up the baton from there, scoring 14 and 8 points, respectively, in the third quarter as MV extended its lead to 73-21.
Drake wound up with 18 points and Granere with 16.
Dominic and Chase Smith scored six points each.
Blake Carter led Chetopa (0-19) with 11.
