HUMBOLDT — The Show Me Late Models Series was featured at Humboldt Speedway Friday night.
There was plenty of action on the local dirt track with the running of Humboldt Speedway’s four regular classes of cars.
Randy Zimmerman went to the head of the pack early and was holding off Justin Wells, the driver with the most wins in the Late Models this season.
Wells was also driving with a $200 “bounty” on him, going to the driver who could beat him.
Zimmerman had the lead with one lap left but got caught up in lapped traffic.
Wells grabbed the lead and won the race. Zimmerman ran second with Larry Campbell in third place. Ken Essary and Dwight Neihoff rounded out the top five.
That ended the night of racing with a close one.
Factory stock drivers opened the night with a three car battle. Brandon Tindle, Doug Scism and Tyler James gave the racing fans a great show. Pushing through several cautions in the race, Tindle captured his first feature win at the Speedway.
Scism held onto the second spot and Derrek Wilson came up to claim third. James finished fourth and Brandon Weide was fifth.
David Matlock became another first-time winner at Humboldt in the pure stock division. He ran second most of the feature behind Stetson Deets.
Matlock found the hole to shoot through when Deets got high on turn two with five laps to go. Matt Habiger came through for second and Tony Morris was third. Mike Aiello placed fourth with Laura Ramey in fifth place.
Levi McGowen came from the third row, outside position to claim victory in the B-Mods. McGowen rolled past Riley Whitworth with one lap to go.
Whitworth finished second followed by Jay Lamons Jr., Dalton Kirk and Tim VanGotten.
Brian Bolin had command of the modified feature but had to fight off challenges from Scott Daniels. Daniels came across in second place. Justin Folk ran third with Rodney Sigg in fourth and Jesse Folk Jr. in fifth.
This Friday the Vintage Cars return to the Speedway along with the regular classes. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 8 o’clock.
Coming July 30, the OCRS Sprints make their last appearance of the season.
