HUMBOLDT — Humboldt Speedway hosted a combined meeting of two late model stock car racing series in Friday’s program. The NCRA and the MARS late model series brought out 35 drivers.
There were five heat races contested then two “B” feature races. All of it was building up to the 40-lap “A” feature race.
Brandon McCormick, who races in the MARS late model series, captured the checkered flag in the main feature race. Terry Phillips was the runner-up as McCormick held off attempts to get past him on the outside.
Tony Jackson ran third in the late models and Eric Turner finished fourth. Rounding out the top five spots was Randy Zimmerman.
Humboldt’s regular modified feature race brought 28 cars to the Speedway. There were 15 remaining to run the feature race.
Brian Bolin got to the front of the pack early and stayed there for the victory. Johnny Bone Jr. ended up second followed by Justin Folk, Ryan Whitworth and John Allen.
Tim VanGotten made it two in a row as he won the B-Mod feature race. Dalton Kirk pushed VanGotten to the end but settled for second place. Jay Lamons Jr. came through to finish third while Jimmie Davis was fourth and Jeremy Chambers took fifth.
Mike Aiello is making a strong bid to defend his pure stock points championship. He nailed down another victory at the Speedway Friday.
Norman Mackley had been leading the race but Aiello made a late run to the lead. Mackley ended up second. Derek Michael was third, Jeremy Willard placed fourth and Matt Habiger was fifth.
Humboldt’s regular class of factory stock had the night off. Racing for those drivers resumes Friday.
