Kelsey Larson and Ashton Isch reported to training camp this week for a trip of a lifetime.
The two area seniors-to-be are members of an 18-and-Under USA Basketball team headed to the 2011 United World Games in Austria.
Larson of Iola High and Isch of Southern Coffey County High have played on an 18-and-Under traveling basketball team, the Lady Nets, and were asked to be on the USA team this summer. Both the Lady Nets and the national team are coached by Mike Watkins of Hartford.
The USA team is in Hartford this week preparing for the overseas trip. The United World Games are June 19-28 in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Larson and Isch are both guards. Each member of the team had to raise more than $3,000 to participate.
The team departs for Munich, Germany, Sunday and plays a game in Munich. It travels to Salzburg and through the Alps and to Venice, Italy.
The opening ceremony of the United World Games is June 24 with a game that night plus a game on each of the next two days. The team returns to the United States on June 28.
The USA teams are sponsored by USA Athletes International, a nonprofit organization established in 1992. It is dedicated to giving amateur athletes opportunities to travel and compete internationally.
Larson is the daughter of Angie and Mark Larson. Isch is the daughter of Michaela and Brian Isch.
