MORAN — Crest High’s boys picked up their second win in as many games with head coach Travis Hermreck sidelined.

Hermreck remains under quarantine because of ongoing COVID-19 protection protocols.

Nevertheless, Crest was able to secure a 60-31 victory over Marmaton Valley Tuesday.

Crest led 15-4 after one quarter and 25-15 at the break. The Lancers took full control in the third quarter, pushing their lead to 49-25.

The Lancers overcame a dazzling scoring performance from Marmaton Valley’s Quincy Adams, who scored 24 of the Wildcats’ 31, including all but three of MV’s points after the first quarter.

“We were really competitive in the first half, but gave up way to many easy buckets in the second half with transition buckets, second-chance points, and just high percentage shots in general,” Wildcat head coach Gavin Cole said. “We are playing better offensively, but we need to continue improving in all aspects. Ball security has still been an issue. We’ve had too many turnovers that are leading to layups on the other end. Overall, we are improving and I’m happy with the work ethic and focus of the team.”

Kobey Miller led the way for the Lancers with 17 points, followed by Tyson Hermreck with 10, Ethan Prasko with nine and Keaton Davis and Stetson Setter with seven each.

Adams secured a team-high eight rebounds for Marmaton Valley, while Robert Cook added five boards. Adams, Cook and Dylan Drake each had one steal.

Crest returns to action Friday at Chetopa. The Wildcat boys will take on Southeast Friday.
